Nafissatou Traore is a campaigner at Niyel, heading the organization’s office in Rwanda, where she focuses on influencing strategy and policy in the East Africa region. She has facilitated training sessions on policy engagement and lobbying to support organizations including the African Population & Health Research Center in Nairobi and the African Center for Peace and Security Training in Addis and Dakar. Additionally, she has led a learning platform, based in Dakar, for NGOs and civil society organizations wishing to share their advocacy experiences in order to collectively find solutions for greater impact. Moving beyond policy influencing in East Africa, Nafissatou has been catering to the communications needs of VSO Rwanda, working to improve the visibility, strategic positioning, and influence of this UK-based NGO. Nafissatou has also carried out strategic research, analysis, and planning for several foundations, including Trust Africa, the Open Society Initiative for West Africa, and the Rockefeller Foundation. Nafissatou holds a Master’s in International Law and Politics and a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. Nafissatou is originally from Senegal and speaks French, English and Wolof.
